neutralises KG CO₂

There is no shortage of barren, degraded land in India. MTPL targeted 12,437 small & discrete parcels of degraded land owned by 12,002 farmers and reforested between 2001 and 2007. Majority of the land is in Odisha (83%). The rest is divided between Andhra Pradesh (14%) and Chhattisgarh (3%).

The farmers supported under this project have little to no capability, or financial wherewithal to reforest their lands.

With the reforestation activity the farmers have been able to generate some income from their barren land through sale of harvested timber. MTPL purchased the harvested timber from farmers at prevailing market price at the time of harvest.

Besides this, the revenue earned from trading of carbon credits of the project will also be shared with the participating farmers as additional income.

How this solution removes carbon
from the atmosphere!
01 Trees are planted on barren land
Industrialisation and rapid urbanisation have collectively caused a lot of deforestation and change in land use and the deforestation not only reduces green cover but releases carbon into the atmosphere
02 Trees are protected throughout the project life cycle and beyond
The farmers are adequately trained and upskilled to maintain and protect the treess and this results in increased carbon storage and biodiversity, and prevents land degradation and topsoil erosion
03 Farmers are financially remunerated for their services
Protecting forests is a full-time job and farmers are compensated for their services through the harvest as well as additional revenue-sharing through the sale of the carbon credits generated through the project
